Times have changed for Life Jacket wearing

A recent visit to the Titanic exhibition at Liverpool Dockland’s Maritime Museum highlighted just how far life jacket design has progressed over the last century.

The bulky, cumbersome and yes, rather ugly, flotation devices that the passengers and crew of the doomed Titanic wore in 1912 have evolved into the functional, colourful and stylish life jackets of 2012.

Please, no more excuses.

Life jackets are now comfortable and affordable and in a crisis could save your life. Summer is approaching in the southern hemisphere which means that you’re likely to be spending more time on the water.

Give yourself an early Christmas present if your life jacket is passed its prime or doesn’t fit properly – go get yourself a new one and kit out the family properly too while you’re at it.

One Response to Times have changed for Life Jacket wearing

  1. Too many rules.
The government didn’t make the waterways, they should butt out.
An inflatable PFD is only a PFD when it is inflated otherwise its a rag and should not be acceptable. I would rather not wear a PFD because they are all uncomfortable and also I simply don’t want to wear one. If you are happy with your false sense of security good luck to you wear whatever you want, just don’t stuff up my day by forcing me to become uncomfortable.
